#TBT from @RobZombie’s Great American Nightmare w/ jeffreestar @RonnieRadke & @TheNeedlz
I compiled some highlights of 2013 to share with you guys.
March 19th marked the release of the self titled album. After working on this album for over 2 years, touring where our fans only knew a couple songs, it was fantastic to finally share the first chapter in Davey Suicide with you. Immediately, on the Orgy tour, we saw a rise in excitement and started hearing you guys sing louder than us.
Alternative Press Magazine recognized us in the top 10 of the 100 bands you need to know for 2013 issue, as well as a slot on the AP stage at SXSW. I got to see Hayley (which if you know me, you’ll know why I was pumped) from @Paramore perform on the stage next to us, which was quite a pleasant surprise. Kerrang! magazine named Davey Suicide #41 in the top 50 greatest living rockstars today. Both we’re humbling and great honors from these huge magazines.
We released our second video w/ Chad Michael Ward for Kids of America. We got to feature Michelle Star and one of our techs, Drew Ferrara as the parents in the video. They are like family to us and that made the video extra special.
The impromptu making of the God Head Killers video. We we’re in freezing weather conditions in Connecticut for a day off during the Wide Awake & Dead tour. Instead of resting like normal humans, we decided to shoot a music video in the abandoned Asylum in the back, where we were staying. Needlz directed and edited it. We spent all day in the freezing cold creating our most unique video yet. It was said that a body was buried in the basement of the asylum and there was a shovel there from it, so we included that as the final shot of the video.
We jumped the pond and went on our first UK Tour. I remember when we got the offer to be a part of this tour. It was a total risk because there was zero money guaranteed and we had less than 2 weeks to be there and figure out how we were going to fund it. We committed to doing it and we put a campaign together that raised the money in 1 day, thanks to all of you guys. It was that moment that I started realizing anything was possible with this group.
Toward the end of the Revel Without a Cause Tour, we got a call to join the Bad Blood tour…At this point, we had played 13 shows in a row without a day off. Rolling straight into this tour would bring it up to 20. We took the tour and finished 20 straight shows without a day off in the dead of winter. I expected us to be run down, and drained by the end of it but it seemed to make us stronger and tighter as a unit.
There is an undying determination in this band to create great art, great songs, deliver the best live show and to become the best in our genre. We raise the bar because we want to give back what got us into music in the first place. The thrill, the rush, and that place to go when noone else is there. Thank you for being there for us as we close this chapter in Davey Suicide and start writing in the first page of the next one.
A new record will be born in 2014, as we take Suicide, World-Wide.
Do yourself a favor and don’t make a New Year’s Resolution. We don’t need a holiday to make a change…just self control.
Much love to all you Fuck Stars and thank you Suicide Nation for supporting the habit.
We are starting our voyage east! So pumped to be on this!
